Clan-Specific Information and House Rules
As the clan page projects are completed, these will be moved into their individual pages. However until those are completed, this is rough version of some of the mechanics and setting information that Emerald Coven Chronicles will use to run each clan. This includes some house rule changes to clan weaknesses, clan disciplines, and clan-specific traits as well as some setting information and adaptation of certain traits to run with our other LARP systems.
Assamites
• Emerald Coven Chronicles does use the Revised canon events of the Assamite schism. Much as this propelled many Sorcerers and Viziers into the Camarilla, it also gave the Antitribu of the Sabbat the first Sorcerers and Viziers to join the sect. Still quite rare, their prominence is growing and the Sword of Caine only grows stronger from the infusion of blood magic to help replace the loss of the Tremere Antitribu.
Blood Brothers
• Blood Brothers of the same circle are automatically treated as though they have a Vinculum score of 10 to each other. This score does not degrade and cannot be affected through any power that breaks or counteracts blood bonds. This is not a true bond, only a representation of a much deeper connection.
Brujah
• The Brujah Antitribu clan flaw applies equally to Frenzy and Rotschreck tests.
Caitiff
• Caitiff (or Panders) do not have in clan disciplines, but they do have 3 disciplines they are in-tune with. These disciplines are always of the Common 8. They may attempt to learn any discipline that they have observed, even clan specific ones. Caitiff never need a teacher for a discipline, though it makes it easier as normal. To learn any discipline outside the In-Tune 3 without a teacher, a Caitiff must research and recreate the effects as though creating a combination discipline, requiring a number of successes equal to 10x the desired level. A Caitiff cannot research blood magic, and some disciplines with special requirements (such as Spiritus or Ogham). If being taught, the Caitiff learns the discipline as normal, though Caitiff never need to drink the blood of their teacher to learn their disciplines.
Followers of Set/Serpents of the Light
• Serpents of the Light do not practice Akhu. However they have justification to begin play with some amount of Wanga and/or Vodoun Necromancy if it fits their story.
• The Serpents of Light have existed for centuries, ever since the colonization of the Caribbean Islands when some rogue Children of Damballah crossed over and their beliefs followed those of the natives, turning their Africanized beliefs toward the practice of Hoodoo and Voodoun. However they stayed isolated from much of the world, hiding their heretic existence from the world, and specifically their parent clan until the 1960’s when a fanatic splinter of them brought them into the Sword of Caine, deciding that Set and his forces had to be stopped.
Gangrel
• Members of any Gangrel Bloodline will always appear less Wyrm-Tainted to the sight of werewolves and practitioners of Draiocht. Where other Cainites will flare as Wyrm-Tainted if they are not at Humanity 7 or higher or followers of any of the Beast paths, Gangrel will not appear Wyrm-Tainted as long as they maintain a rating of 5 or higher in any path except the most heinous and destructive ones (Evil Revelations, Screams, or any other path that truly revels in destruction).
• Emerald Coven Chronicles uses the canon events of the forming of the Great Pack, the sect of independent Gangrel to which over 75% of the Clan now belong. This exodus took less members from the Sabbat than it did the Camarilla, but the loss of the Gangrel, both Country and City, is being felt by the Sabbat. Gangrel affiliated with the pack may begin play with Draiocht, though such a story is a difficult one at best while still holding membership in the Sword of Caine.
Gargoyle Antitribu
• Gargoyle antitribu are not as common as one might think following their rebellion against the Tremere. For reasons unknown the majority of free Gargoyles have chosen to join the Camarilla, under the nose of their former masters, rather than join the Sabbat or the Anarchs. Nevertheless, there are those of the bloodline who have come to the Sabbat, though the inherent hatred of the Tzimisce present in many of them makes their existence in the Sabbat difficult.
• Flight is both a discipline and a magical effect. For Gargoyles, Flight is not purchased as a discipline but rather as a secondary Thaumaturgy Path with Visceratika counting as the Primary discipline. This means that a Gargoyle purchases Flight at current rating x4 (all Gargoyles start with the first level of Flight for free as part of creation), and cannot raise his Flight rating higher than his rating in Visceratika. Flight purchased by anyone other than a Gargoyle will count as a normal discipline purchased at out of clan (or Caitiff) costs.
• Flight as a discipline can be taught and/or gained via diablerie. The trouble is that Gargoyles do not understand that this power is actually a discipline, since they learn it innately connected to their Visceratika. If a Gargoyle could be convinced that this innate power of theirs is actually a discipline, then they would be able to teach it. However, asking a Gargoyle to teach you to fly is much like asking someone to teach you how to blink. Gargoyles know how to do it, but they really can’t explain how they do it. CONVINCING A GARGOYLE THAT HIS FLIGHT IS ACTUALLY A TEACHABLE DISCIPLINE WILL REQUIRE AN IN-GAME STORY!
Giovanni
• Though no Giovanni officially exist within the ranks of the Sabbat, there are always stories of the Rogue Giovanni Antitribu, much as there are in the Camarilla. These have never been proven, and yet rumours usually have a basis in reality. However unlikely it might seem (and even more so with the inclusion of the Harbingers of Skulls in the Sect), it is entirely possible that there may be a few Giovanni within the Sword of Caine. Those Giovanni within the main family are quite willing to deal with the Sabbat as much as they are willing to deal with the Camarilla. Though they have no formal treaty with the Sabbat as they do with the Camarilla, many a Sabbat member has good ties with the Giovanni, and they often serve as neutral liaisons when Camarilla and Sabbat must meet. This is one of the reasons the Harbingers are not fully trusted within the Sabbat, as they threaten to take away powerful allies made over centuries with their crusade. Giovanni PCs will only be permitted in Emerald Coven Chronicles with a very good story.
Harbingers of Skulls
• There are two canon origins for the Harbingers of Skulls. One states that they are the Cappadocians who were locked away in Kaymakli at the Feast of Folly some 2000 years ago by Cappadocius in an effort to remove the chaff from the clan. Another says that they are the select few who followed Lady Constanicia in the last days of the Giovanni purge into the Shadowlands and were stuck in the Labyrinth until their prison was ripped open by the Maelstrom in 1999. BOTH ARE TRUE. Lady Constanicia took 50 of her most favored Cappadocians with her into the Shadowlands to escape the final nights of the Purge. They were freed due to the Maelstrom in 1999, twisted and insane due to long exposure to the Shadowlands. These formed the core of the Harbingers. Through the secrets learned in the Shadowlands by Unre (formerly Lady Constanicia), these core 50 found Kaymakli and released the sleeping survivors of the Feast of Folly to join their ranks.
• Contrary to what is said in Guide to the Sabbat, the Harbingers of Skulls have embraced since joining the Sabbat. They are very selective in who they choose to embrace, and the twisting that happened to them in the Shadowlands and in Kaymakli twists all those who share their blood such that they share the full clan flaw of the Harbingers rather than manifesting the lesser flaw of the Cappadocians.
Kiasyd
• Kiasyd are a barely acknowledged bloodline of the Lasombra, formed in the year 470 through the bizarre experiments of the elder Marconius. Most of the Lasombra do their best to pretend the Kiasyd do not exist.
• Most Kiasyd are independent, a situation which suits the Lasombra just fine, though a fair number remain with the Sabbat due to their blood ties. Their progenitor Marconius is the Independent Prince of Strasberg and has been since the city was built. He maintains no allegiance to any sect and has almost nothing to do with the world outside his city.
• Kiasyd PCs will be permitted with a good story.
Lasombra
• All Lasombra more than 200 years old are automatically considered to be a member of the Friends of the Night, unless they specifically wish not to be due to story reasons.
Malkavians
• Malkavians under the effects of the Great Prank are all but unheard of in the Sabbat. Malkavian Antitribu possess the in clan disciplines of Auspex, Dementation, and Obfuscate. Some under the effects of the Prank may convert from the Camarilla, but it is a rare thing indeed.
• All Malkavians are connected by a limited telepathic network colloquially referred to as Malk Time, or the Madness Network. Theories abound as to what this network truly is, but no one knows for sure. The connection grows in strength as the character increases the clan-specific Talent of Malkavian Time.
Nosferatu
• Nosferatu may take a 3 point merit to become a Moderator of NosCom. This merit gives -2 difficulty on all NosCom rolls and gives the Moderator the ability to grant access to NosCom as well as raise or lower the level of any other member at will, though too many changes too quickly may draw Admin’s eye. A Nosferatu must have NosCom 5 to take this merit.
• Due to their cross-sect connections, Nosferatu are quite justified to begin with Contacts or Allies in the Camarilla (other Nosferatu only) without more story necessary than that they are Nosferatu.
Ravnos
• Ravnos may take a variable point flaw Enhanced Vice to raise the difficulty of their Vice check by an amount equal to the value of the flaw.
• Emerald Coven Chronicles does use the Revised canon events of the Week of Nightmares. In this week, approximately 90% of Clan Ravnos were wiped out. The clan is very near extinction at the moment, though more Antitribu survived the events than independents due to the intervention of their packs. If any Ravnos still alive truly understands what happened that week, they aren’t talking. Most have repressed what they saw to preserve what sanity they had left.
Salubri Antitribu
• The Salubri Antitribu flaw manifests itself in our feeding system by rendering them unable to benefit from the Herd background or any source of stored blood. They must feed directly from the source to gain any nourishment.
Toreador
• Most Toreador in the Sabbat are of the twisted bloodline formed within the sect that has the Sadism clan flaw instead of Enraptured by Beauty. However, there are those, either converted from the Camarilla or simply still of a purer bloodline may still manifest the original clan flaw instead. Toreador players may choose either flaw at character creation.
Tremere
• All Tremere Antitribu, including Telyavelic Tremere are assumed to have undergone the Vaulderie at least once and to bear the Mark of the Betrayer. Tremere Antitribu are not assumed to be bound to the Circle of 7 unless they wish to take an additional 3 point flaw representing this bond. The Vaulderie will not break the bond to the Circle of 7, though the ritual Abandon the Fetters will.
• Telyavelic Tremere practicing Sielanic Thaumaturgy are unable to teach this discipline, though they are able to teach new paths and rituals to each other. Other Cainites simply cannot seem to grasp what it is they are doing (the math just doesn’t add up). This confuses the Telyavelic Tremere themselves as much as anyone since it makes perfect sense to them. There are apocryphal tales of certain Tzimisce Kolduns or Malkavians learning these arts in the past, but no one has found one to verify.
Tzimisce
• Tzimisce’s in-clan disciplines are Animalism, Auspex, Dominate. They start automatically infected with Vicissitude and roll on the infection chart normally, however they start a step more infected than anyone else before they roll.
Ventrue
• The Ventrue feeding restriction manifests itself in our feeding system by requiring a Ventrue to spend 4 downtime actions for each feeding action. In addition, the Herd background takes twice as many actions to acquire (though not to maintain). Most Ventrue feed almost exclusively on herds and businesses made to cultivate their particular taste.
• Ventrue Antitribu may choose whether to be part of the main bloodline, or to be part of the newer Antitribu bloodline that emerged within the Sabbat known as the Crusaders. The Antitribu bloodline has the disciplines of Auspex, Fortitude, Presence. Both bloodlines have the same flaw.
